Mindfulness, originally a Buddhist meditation practice, has in more recent years become recognised as a powerful tool in stress reduction. It now has a strong evidence base that demonstrates how practising mindfulness-based skills can improve both the brain's structure and its functionality in the face of adversity.
Mindfulness is now offered to patients in the NHS and is particularly helpful for individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. However, you do not need to be struggling with poor mental health to benefit.
The practice is a powerful antidote to our frantic modern world. Theory offers insight into the brain’s capacity to find balance in the face of change and practical applications offer respite from racing minds.
Vicki Ritson is an experienced psychotherapist. She began using Mindfulness herself in 2010 and has since run a number of 8-week community courses in Scotland. She now offers one-to-one classes as part of her private practice in Wincanton, Somerset.
Vicki is enthusiastic about the benefits of Mindfulness, including psychological, behavioural and emotional gains, and is eager to share her knowledge and experience with others on a one-to-one basis.
